The best golf schools in 2026 are multi-day programs at Pinehurst Golf Academy, the Jim McLean Golf School and Golfzon Leadbetter in Florida, plus resort academies such as Sea Island and Boyne. Expect about $2,300 to $5,200 per person for three or four days, depending on whether lodging, meals and golf are included. The good ones sell out months ahead.
A golf school is the one golf trip that’s supposed to make you better at golf, which sets the bar higher than for a buddies trip, where the only goal is to come home with your dignity and most of your money. Done well, three or four days of structured instruction, practice and on-course coaching can change a swing in a way a year of occasional lessons doesn’t. Done badly, it’s an expensive range session with a souvenir video.
The market doesn’t make choosing easy. Many of the “best golf schools” lists online are years old, and some still recommend schools that reports say have closed. Prices are hard to find, formats vary wildly, and a “school” can mean anything from a 14-hour weekend clinic to a five-day all-inclusive program with lodging, meals and five rounds of golf.
This page sorts that out. It covers the best golf school vacations we could verify for 2026, what they cost and include, what a school day actually looks like, who each format suits, and whether a golf school is worth the money compared with lessons at home. It’s the hub for our golf-school guides, so each section points to a deeper page for Florida, Arizona, seniors, women, juniors and costs.
Prices below come from the schools’ own booking pages, checked in September and October 2026, unless we say otherwise. Golf-school prices change every season, and the best sessions sell out, so treat them as a guide and confirm before you book.
At a glance
- Best all-inclusive school: Pinehurst Golf Academy. The 2026 Weekend School ran $2,635 to $5,206 per person with lodging, meals, golf and instruction, and every 2026 weekend session sold out.

The Pinehurst range covers single and double occupancy across the 2026 seasons. Leadbetter’s price is the listed rate for its three-day school; we couldn’t confirm the year, so check it. IMG’s range covers holiday and fall camps; winter, spring and summer camps start at $2,599.
A note on what isn’t here. Many “best golf schools” lists still recommend the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Las Vegas. Reports say Harmon held his final school there in December 2024, while the Butch Harmon Floridian’s own FAQ says he “also coaches at Rio Secco.” We wouldn’t book a Las Vegas golf-school vacation around his name without confirming directly. Golf Digest Schools also appear on older lists; we couldn’t verify current operations, so they’re not in our table.

What happens at a golf school?
Most multi-day golf schools follow the same rhythm, whatever the brand: assess, teach, practice, test it on the course, then give you a plan to take home. Here’s what a typical three-day school looks like.
Day one: assessment. You’ll hit balls on camera while an instructor films you from face-on and down the line, and many schools add launch-monitor data from TrackMan or Foresight, which measures clubhead speed, ball speed, launch, spin and where the clubface points at impact. A good instructor uses all that to find the one or two things causing most of your bad shots, rather than handing you a list of fifteen faults. Expect to spend the afternoon on drills for the first fix.
Day two: building it. More full-swing work in the morning, often in small groups rotating between stations, then the short game: chipping, pitching, bunker play and putting, which is where most of your strokes go and where schools save the most shots for the least effort. Some schools add fitness screening, equipment checks or a session on the mental game.
Day three: taking it to the course. On-course instruction is the part that makes a school worth more than range lessons. An instructor walks a few holes with your group, teaching course management, club selection, uneven lies and how to use the new move under pressure. Many schools end with a review session and a take-home video or practice plan.
All-inclusive schools like Pinehurst wrap the instruction around rounds of golf, lodging and meals, so you play a full round most afternoons and see whether the morning’s work holds up. Instruction-only schools like Jim McLean’s are more intensive during the day and leave lodging and evening golf to you.
The details that separate good schools from average ones:
- Student-to-teacher ratio. Four or five students per instructor is good; more than that and you’ll spend a lot of time watching.
- Hours of real instruction. Ask how many hours you’ll actually be taught, not how many hours you’ll be on the property.
- On-course time. Range-only schools are cheaper for a reason.
- Follow-up. The best schools send you home with video, a written plan and sometimes a remote check-in.
Pinehurst Golf Academy: the classic all-inclusive school
Pinehurst Golf Academy is the school most golfers have heard of, and for an all-inclusive instruction vacation it’s the benchmark. Its instructors are led by Eric Alpenfels, and its packages bundle everything: resort accommodation, three meals a day, video analysis, instruction, rounds of golf, fees, taxes and gratuities. You arrive, hand over your clubs and don’t think about logistics until you leave.
The 2026 formats:
- Weekend School: Thursday to Sunday, with three days of instruction and four rounds of golf.
- Weekday School: Sunday to Thursday, with four days of instruction and five rounds.
- Short Game School, an Alumni School for returning students, and Corporate programs.
- Parent & Child School: four days and three nights, for juniors aged 9 to 17 with a parent.
- Junior School: Sunday to Friday, for ages 11 to 17.
Weekend School prices for 2026, per person including taxes and resort fees:
| Session | Single occupancy | Double occupancy |
|---|---|---|
| Early Bird (March 5–8) | $3,314–$4,608 | $2,635–$3,279 |
| Spring and fall | $3,832–$5,206 | $3,015–$3,703 |
| Summer (July 23–26) | $3,314–$4,343 | $2,635–$3,147 |
Every 2026 Weekend School session showed as sold out when we checked, and registration is online only. If you want a 2027 spot, especially in spring or fall, watch for the new calendar and book the day it opens.
Is it worth it? For a mid- to high-handicapper who wants instruction and a golf trip in one package, yes. The price includes things you’d pay for anyway on a Pinehurst trip (lodging, meals and rounds), so the instruction effectively costs much less than the headline number. Lower handicaps who want intensive one-to-one work may get more from an instruction-only school.
Our Pinehurst Golf Academy guide covers every school format, with 2027 dates as they’re released, and our Pinehurst golf trip guide covers the rest of the village if you’re staying on.

Florida golf schools: Jim McLean, Leadbetter and IMG
Florida has more golf-school options than anywhere else in the country, and its winter season is the reason. Three names lead the market.
Jim McLean Golf School. McLean’s world headquarters is at The Biltmore in Coral Gables, the Miami hotel with the famous tower and a Donald Ross golf course. His 2026 three-day school featuring Jim McLean costs $3,195 per person, with eight of the instruction hours spent with McLean himself and the rest with his Lead Master or Master instructors. It includes digital video analysis, Foresight launch-monitor data, a personalized instruction video with voice-over from your instructor, a workbook and lunch at The Biltmore on the first two days. A typical session runs Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A $500 deposit holds your place and isn’t refundable, and students must be 18 or older. McLean schools are also listed at other locations, including Red Ledges in Utah, Mayakoba in Mexico, Fountain Hills in Arizona and La Quinta in California.
Golfzon Leadbetter Academy. David Leadbetter’s academy, now run with the Korean golf-technology company Golfzon, has its headquarters at ChampionsGate near Orlando and more than 20 academies worldwide. Its three-day school is listed at $2,640 and includes full-swing video assessment, short-game instruction, group fitness, a mental-performance session, on-course instruction and an equipment check. We couldn’t confirm the year of that price, so check before you book.
IMG Academy. The sports school in Bradenton runs golf camps for juniors aged 8 to 18, with boarding and non-boarding options. Holiday camps start at $1,539 non-boarding and $1,859 boarding, fall weekly camps at $2,449 and $2,949, and winter, spring and summer camps at $2,599.
At the very top of the market, the Butch Harmon Floridian in Palm City runs its TeamFLO program, where a 90-minute lesson with Claude Harmon III costs $1,000, a full day $6,000 and a daily observation pass $750. That’s tour-player pricing, and it’s a useful reminder that a $3,000 school is a bargain by comparison.
Florida’s season for golf schools is November to April, when the weather is dry and mild; summer is hot, humid and stormy in the afternoons, though prices can be lower. Our golf schools in Florida guide covers every program in the state, and our Florida golf vacations guide covers the rest of the trip.
Arizona and the West: winter golf schools
Arizona is Florida’s main rival for winter golf schools, and for many golfers it’s the better choice: dry air, cool mornings, firm desert courses and almost no rain from late fall to spring. Scottsdale’s big resorts run academies and multi-day clinics alongside their courses, and the Jim McLean Golf School lists a location at Fountain Hills, east of Scottsdale. Further west, McLean also lists La Quinta in the California desert, and in summer Red Ledges in the mountains of Utah.
The desert season runs roughly from October to April. In summer, Phoenix-area temperatures regularly pass 100°F, so any school that runs then will start at dawn and finish before lunch.
One warning for the West. Las Vegas was long home to the Butch Harmon School of Golf, a fixture on every “best golf schools” list. Reports say Harmon held his final school there in December 2024, so confirm the current situation directly before you plan a Las Vegas instruction trip around it.
Our golf schools in Arizona guide covers the state’s programs and resort academies, and if you’re combining a school with a few rounds, our Scottsdale golf trip guide covers the courses.
How much does golf school cost?
A three- or four-day golf school costs about $2,300 to $3,300 per person for instruction alone in 2026, and $2,600 to $5,200 with lodging, meals and golf at an all-inclusive school like Pinehurst. Junior camps start around $1,500. Add flights, and tips where they aren’t included.
The headline prices aren’t directly comparable, because schools include very different things. The useful number is what you pay per hour of actual instruction:
| Program | 2026 price | What you get | Rough cost per instruction hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sea Island Women’s Golf Getaway Weekend | $2,295 | 14 hours of instruction, plus green and cart fees during instruction | About $164 |
| Jim McLean 3-Day School featuring Jim McLean | $3,195 | About 17 hours on site including two lunches, so roughly 15 hours of instruction by our estimate | About $210 |
| Golfzon Leadbetter 3-Day School | Listed at $2,640 | Three days of instruction, fitness, mental game and on-course work | Depends on the schedule; ask |
| Pinehurst Weekend School | $2,635–$5,206 | 3 instruction days, 4 rounds, lodging, three meals a day, taxes and gratuities | Not comparable: it’s a package |
The Pinehurst number looks high until you strip out what you’d pay on any Pinehurst trip. Three nights of resort lodging, meals and four rounds of golf would cost a good part of that on their own, which makes the instruction a relatively small slice of the price. That’s why all-inclusive schools are often the better value for golfers who wanted a golf trip anyway.
What’s usually not included:
- Flights and travel to the school, and ground transport if you don’t rent a car.
- Lodging and dinners at instruction-only schools like McLean’s and Leadbetter’s.
- Extra golf beyond the rounds in the package.
- Tips for instructors or staff where gratuities aren’t built in. Pinehurst’s packages include them.
- Deposits you can’t get back. McLean’s $500 deposit is non-refundable, so check the cancellation terms before you pay.
Our how much does golf school cost guide compares more programs line by line, including what lessons at home would cost for the same number of hours.
Is golf school worth it?
Yes, if you go with one clear goal, practice afterward and pick a school with small groups and on-course instruction. A golf school packs months of lessons into a few days. It isn’t worth it if you won’t practice at home, because a new move fades quickly without reinforcement.
The honest comparison is with lessons from a good teacher at home. Here’s how they stack up:
- A school wins on intensity. Three days of repetition, video and feedback gets a new move further than a weekly lesson squeezed between work and family. You’ll also cover the short game and on-course play, which a typical range lesson doesn’t.
- A school wins on technology and specialists. Launch monitors, video systems, fitness screening and putting labs are standard at the big schools, and you’ll often work with more than one instructor.
- Lessons at home win on follow-through. Your local pro sees you again in two weeks and fixes what slipped. A school sends you home with a video and a plan, and what happens next is up to you.
- Lessons at home win on cost per hour, at least for one-to-one time with a good local teacher, and you don’t pay for flights.
Who gets the most out of a golf school, in our view: beginners who want a fast, structured start; mid-handicappers stuck on a plateau; golfers coming back after years away; and couples or friends who want a trip with a purpose. Who should probably skip it: low-handicappers with a coach they trust, and golfers who mainly want to play. A golf trip with a playing lesson or two will suit them better.
The best way to protect the investment is simple. Book a follow-up lesson at home for a week or two after the school, take your school video with you, and practice the drills you were given before you go back to hitting drivers.
Adult golf camps and schools for beginners
A golf camp for adults is a golf school with a friendlier name, and many are built for beginners and returning golfers rather than single-digit players. Nike Golf Camps, run by US Sports Camps, include adult programs, and many resort academies run beginner tracks inside their regular schools.
What a beginner should look for:
- A beginner track or group. Learning the basics alongside 8-handicappers isn’t fun for anyone.
- Short-game time. The fastest way to break 100 is around the greens, not on the range.
- Rental or loaner clubs. Don’t buy an expensive set before the school; your instructor can tell you what suits you afterward.
- On-course etiquette and rules. A good beginner school teaches you how to play with others, not just how to swing.
Our golf camp for adults guide compares adult camps by level, length and price.
Golf schools for seniors
For golfers over 55, the best schools teach a swing that suits the body you have now, rather than the one you had at 30. That usually means more emphasis on mobility, tempo, speed training, equipment and the short game.
Senior Golf Schools, a long-running specialist, says it has been in business for 35 years, with PGA, LPGA and PGTCA-certified instructors and programs at more than 30 US destinations. Its website footer still read 1992–2024 when we checked, so confirm its 2026 schedule directly. Most of the big general schools, including Pinehurst, welcome senior students too.
What to ask before you book a school as a senior golfer:
- Will the instruction account for flexibility and any injuries?
- Is there an equipment session, so you can check shafts, lofts and grips?
- How long are the days, and are carts available for the on-course sessions?
- How much time goes to the short game and putting?
Our golf schools for seniors guide covers the programs built for golfers 55 and over.
Golf schools for women
Women-only programs exist for a good reason: many women learn better, and enjoy it more, in a group without men offering unsolicited advice. The best-known is Sea Island’s Women’s Golf Getaway Weekend on the Georgia coast. It costs $2,295 per person for 14 hours of instruction, with green and cart fees during instruction and a “Nine and Wine” social included. Its fall 2026 dates (September 17–20, October 1–4, and a Level 2 weekend on October 15–18) sold out, and October 29 to November 1 was still listed when we checked in September, which tells you how far ahead to book.
Boyne Golf Academy in Michigan, a Golf Digest Editors’ Choice school that has been teaching since 1986, runs programs for women as well as for adults and juniors.
Our golf school for women guide compares women’s schools, clinics and resort programs.

Junior golf camps and parent-child schools
Junior golf camps range from a week of day camp to boarding programs that feel like a golf version of a summer school, and the best ones combine coaching with supervision you can trust.
- IMG Academy, in Bradenton, Florida, runs golf camps for ages 8 to 18, with boarding and non-boarding options. Holiday camps start at $1,539 non-boarding and $1,859 boarding; fall weekly camps at $2,449 and $2,949; winter, spring and summer camps at $2,599.
- Pinehurst Golf Academy runs a Junior School from Sunday to Friday for ages 11 to 17, and a Parent & Child School over four days and three nights for juniors aged 9 to 17 with a parent.
- Boyne Golf Academy has junior programs in northern Michigan during the summer.
For an overnight camp, ask about the coach-to-camper ratio, the staff’s background checks and credentials, how supervision works in the evenings, and what happens if a child is homesick or hurt. The parent-child format at Pinehurst is a good middle ground for younger juniors, and it doubles as a family golf trip.
Our overnight junior golf camps guide compares camps by age, level and price.

How to choose a golf school: ten questions to ask
Before you pay a deposit, get answers to these:
- How many students per instructor? Four or five is good; more means more watching.
- How many hours of actual instruction? Not hours on the property, hours being taught.
- Who will teach me? The name on the brochure may teach only part of the program.
- How much time is on the course? On-course instruction is where the new swing meets reality.
- How much short-game and putting time is there? That’s where most golfers save the most strokes.
- What technology is used? Video and a launch monitor are standard at the big schools.
- What do I take home? Video, a written plan and drills, and ideally a way to check in afterward.
- What’s included? Lodging, meals, golf, range balls, club rental, taxes and tips all vary.
- What’s the cancellation policy? Deposits are often non-refundable.
- Is there a group for my level? Beginners and low-handicappers need different programs.

Golf vacations with lessons (without a full school)
Not everyone wants three days of drills. If you’d rather play most of the time, book a golf vacation with lessons instead: a resort with a good academy, where you take a private lesson or two and a playing lesson on the course.
Most of the resorts above work this way too. Pinehurst, Sea Island, Boyne, the Biltmore in Coral Gables and ChampionsGate near Orlando all offer lessons outside their full schools, and many of the big resorts in Florida, Arizona and the Carolinas do the same. A playing lesson, where a pro walks nine holes with you, is the most useful hour of instruction most golfers never book. It teaches course management, club choice and how to handle real lies, which no range session can.
A sensible pattern is one lesson early in the trip, to fix whatever is bothering you, then a playing lesson midweek. Our golf getaways guide has ideas for trips that mix golf, lessons and time off the course.
How to get the most out of a golf school
The golfers who come home from a school with a better game usually do the same few things before, during and after. None of them costs anything.
Before you go
- Write down what you want to fix. “Stop slicing my driver” or “get up and down more often” gives your instructor a target. “Get better” doesn’t.
- Bring your numbers. Your handicap, your typical miss, and, if you track them, fairways, greens and putts per round. Instructors love data, and it saves the first morning.
- Get your body ready. Three days of hitting balls is hard on hands, backs and wrists. Hit a few buckets in the weeks before, stretch, and pack tape for blisters.
- Bring the clubs you play. Don’t show up with a new driver you haven’t hit. If you’re thinking about new clubs, book the equipment check at the school and buy afterward.
While you’re there
- Work on one thing at a time. The best instructors give you one or two priorities. Resist the urge to fix everything at once.
- Film your own swing on your phone at the end of each day, from the same angles your instructor uses, so you can compare later.
- Ask why, not just what. Understanding the reason for a change makes it far easier to fix it yourself when it drifts at home.
- Rest. A sore, tired body makes compensations, and you’ll go home with new bad habits instead of new good ones.
After you get home
- Book a follow-up lesson with a local pro within a couple of weeks, and show them your school video.
- Practice the drills, not just the full swing. Twenty minutes of the right drill beats a large bucket of drivers.
- Expect to get worse before you get better. A new move feels strange and often costs a few strokes at first. Give it a month before you judge it.
Going with a partner or friends? Golf schools make good trips for couples and friends, especially when one of you is newer to the game. Ask the school to put you in groups by level rather than together; you’ll both learn more, and you’ll still have the evenings to compare notes.
When to book and when to go
Book early for the famous schools. Every 2026 Pinehurst Weekend School session sold out, and Sea Island’s fall women’s weekends filled up well ahead. Watch for next year’s calendar and book the day it opens, especially for spring and fall.
Match the school to the season:
- November to April: Florida and Arizona, at their driest and most comfortable.
- Spring and fall: Pinehurst and the Carolinas, with a summer session at Pinehurst in late July.
- Summer: northern schools such as Boyne in Michigan, and McLean’s mountain location at Red Ledges in Utah.
- Fall: Sea Island’s women’s weekends on the Georgia coast.
Plan the days around the school. Arrive the day before, so you start fresh rather than straight off a plane, and if you can, stay a day afterward to play a round with the new swing while it’s still fresh.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best golf school in the US?
For an all-inclusive week, Pinehurst Golf Academy, whose packages include lodging, meals, golf and instruction. For intensive instruction, the Jim McLean Golf School at The Biltmore in Coral Gables and Golfzon Leadbetter at ChampionsGate near Orlando. Sea Island’s women’s weekend and IMG Academy’s junior camps lead their categories.
How much does Pinehurst Golf Academy cost?
The 2026 Weekend School cost $2,635 to $5,206 per person, depending on season and single or double occupancy, including lodging, three meals a day, golf, instruction, taxes and gratuities. Every 2026 weekend session sold out, so book as soon as the next calendar opens.
How much does golf school cost?
About $2,300 to $3,300 per person for a three-day, instruction-only school in 2026, such as Jim McLean’s three-day school at $3,195, and $2,600 to $5,200 for an all-inclusive program like Pinehurst’s. Junior camps start around $1,500. Flights are extra.
Is golf school worth it compared with private lessons?
For most golfers who’ll practice afterward, yes. A school gives you intensive instruction, short-game and on-course coaching and better technology in a few days. Private lessons at home are cheaper per hour and better for follow-up, so the best plan is often a school followed by a lesson at home.
How many days should a golf school be?
Three or four days suits most adults: long enough to learn and test a change, short enough to absorb it. Two-day programs are closer to clinics. Five-day schools, like Pinehurst’s Weekday School with four instruction days and five rounds, suit committed golfers and juniors.
Are golf schools good for beginners?
Yes, if you pick one with a beginner track. A structured start builds good habits faster than teaching yourself. Look for small groups, plenty of short-game time and loaner clubs, and don’t buy an expensive set until after the school.
What should I bring to golf school?
Your clubs (or a reservation for rental clubs), golf shoes and comfortable layers, rain gear, sunscreen, a glove or two, and a notebook or phone for drills. Bring your handicap and a short list of what you want to fix, so your instructor can focus on it.
Is the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Las Vegas still open?
Reports say Butch Harmon held his final school in Las Vegas in December 2024, though the Butch Harmon Floridian’s FAQ says he also coaches at Rio Secco. Confirm directly before planning a trip around it. The Floridian’s TeamFLO program in Palm City, Florida, charges $1,000 for a 90-minute lesson with Claude Harmon III.
Are there golf schools for seniors?
Yes. Senior Golf Schools specializes in golfers 55 and over and says it runs programs at more than 30 US destinations, though you should confirm its 2026 schedule. Most general schools, including Pinehurst, welcome seniors, and the best adapt instruction to flexibility, speed and equipment.
What age can juniors attend golf camp?
IMG Academy’s golf camps take ages 8 to 18, Pinehurst’s Junior School takes ages 11 to 17, and its Parent & Child School takes juniors from 9 to 17 with a parent. Many local and resort programs take younger children for day camps.
When should I book a golf school?
As early as you can for the famous programs. All 2026 Pinehurst Weekend School sessions sold out, and Sea Island’s fall women’s weekends filled well ahead. For Florida and Arizona winter schools, book by late summer; for spring at Pinehurst, book when the calendar opens.
