Masters tickets come from one place: Augusta National’s online lottery at masters.com, which opens for a few weeks each June for the following April. For 2027, face value is $125 for a Monday or Tuesday practice round, $150 for Wednesday and $160 for any tournament day. Resale is prohibited, and applicants hear by email in July.
That’s the short answer, and it’s the one most guides stop at. The longer answer is that a trip to the Masters is less about the ticket than about everything around it. The ticket, if you win one, is one of the best-value days in sport: $160 for a tournament round, a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich and a $6 beer. The week around it is not. Augusta’s hotels and houses charge several times their normal rates, flights into the city’s small airport sell out, and the secondary market asks well over $1,000 a day for a ticket the club says you’re not allowed to buy.
This guide covers the whole trip: how the lottery works, which day to choose, what the tickets and the week really cost, where to stay, how to get there, what you can and can’t bring, and how to fit some golf of your own into Masters week. It’s also the hub for our Masters guides, and it’s written to stay current: the dated box below is updated each year, and every price carries its source.
2027 at a glance
- Dates: Monday, April 5 to Sunday, April 11, 2027. Practice rounds Monday to Wednesday, with the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday; tournament rounds Thursday, April 8 to Sunday, April 11.
- Application: the window for 2027 ran from June 1 to June 20, 2026, online only at masters.com. It’s closed; the next window, for 2028, is expected in June 2027.
- Results: everyone who applies is emailed, win or lose, typically in July.
- Face value: Monday and Tuesday practice $125; Wednesday practice, including the Par 3 Contest, $150; Thursday to Sunday $160.
- Crowds: about 40,000 patrons a day, against millions of applications.
- Resale: “strictly prohibited” by the club, which revoked tickets after a 2025 crackdown.
- Phones: banned on the grounds, with the ticket purchaser’s tickets at stake.
- Lodging: Masters-week rentals averaged $514 a night in 2025, against about $200 normally.
How do you get Masters tickets?
The only official way to get Masters tickets is Augusta National’s annual online lottery at masters.com, open for about three weeks in June for the following year’s tournament. Beyond that, there are closed Series badges, official hospitality, and a secondary market the club prohibits and polices. Most patrons who go every year either win the lottery or are guests of someone who did.

Here are the routes, honestly compared:
| Route | How it works | What it costs | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| The ticket lottery | Apply online at masters.com in June; random draw | Face value: $125–$160 per ticket | Low odds; you win one day at most, and Augusta picks which |
| Series badges | A closed patron list with four-day badges renewed each year | Face value | The waiting list has been closed for decades |
| Official hospitality | Premium packages sold by the club | Far above face value | Limited; pricing isn’t published |
| Travel packages | Tickets bundled with lodging by travel companies | Well above face value | The club says only it can sell tickets; check how the package sources them |
| Secondary market | Resale sites and private sales | Commonly $1,000–$2,000+ a day; about $1,800 for a Tuesday is typical, per GOLF.com | Resale is prohibited, and the club has revoked tickets |
| A friend who won | Winners can bring guests on their tickets | Face value | Transferring tickets for profit breaches the terms |
The honest summary: apply every year, and plan the trip around the result. The lottery is free to enter, the prices are extraordinarily low for a major championship, and people do win. The alternatives either cost several times more or carry a real risk of being turned away at the gate.
How the Masters ticket lottery works
Augusta National runs the application itself, online only, through an account at masters.com. Here’s how the 2027 cycle worked, per GOLF.com, Yahoo Sports and Atlanta and Charleston newspaper coverage of the club’s announcement:
- Create a masters.com account before the window opens. Applications are tied to the account.
- Apply during the window. For 2027 it ran from Monday, June 1 to Saturday, June 20, 2026. There’s no fee to apply.
- Choose your days and quantities. You can request practice-round tickets (up to four per day) and tournament tickets (up to two per day), and you can apply for more than one day.
- Understand the draw. Tournament days are drawn first, then practice rounds. You can win only one day, and Augusta chooses which of your requested days you get.
- Wait for the email. Everyone who applies hears by email, win or lose, typically in July.
- Pay and plan. Winners pay face value and receive their tickets ahead of the tournament. Lodging should be booked the moment the email arrives, if not before.
A few practical points from people who apply every year. Apply for practice rounds as well as tournament days. Practice-round tickets come in larger numbers per application, and Monday and Tuesday are, for many patrons, the best days anyway. Keep your account details current, since a lapsed email address means a missed notification. And don’t try to game the system with duplicate applications; the club controls the process end to end, and the ticket is tied to the applicant.
Our Masters ticket application guide walks through the form screen by screen, with key dates for the 2028 cycle as soon as the club confirms them.
How much are Masters tickets?
For 2027, Masters tickets cost $125 for a Monday or Tuesday practice round, $150 for Wednesday, including the Par 3 Contest, and $160 for each tournament day, Thursday to Sunday, if you win the lottery. On the secondary market, which the club prohibits, practice-round tickets commonly sell for more than $1,000.
Face value has been rising, if slowly. According to ESPN, tournament-day tickets went from $115 to $140 in 2023, and from $140 to $160 for 2026. The most recent increase followed Augusta National’s crackdown on secondary-market sales in April 2025, when hundreds of patrons were questioned about where their tickets came from and many passes were revoked.
| Day | 2027 face value | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Monday practice round | $125 | Relaxed practice, cameras allowed, fewer crowds |
| Tuesday practice round | $125 | The same, with more players on the course |
| Wednesday practice round and Par 3 Contest | $150 | The Par 3 Contest, with players’ children as caddies; cameras allowed |
| Thursday first round | $160 | The full field, no cameras |
| Friday second round | $160 | The full field and the cut |
| Saturday third round | $160 | Moving day, with the leaders late in the afternoon |
| Sunday final round | $160 | The champion, and the biggest crowds |
| Drive, Chip and Putt (the Sunday before) | $35 | The junior national finals, at Augusta National |
| Augusta National Women’s Amateur final round | $150 | The women’s amateur final, the Saturday before Masters week |
Face values for 2027 from GOLF.com and Yahoo Sports coverage of the club’s announcement. Price history from ESPN.
The resale reality needs saying plainly. Augusta National says it is “the only authorized source/seller of Masters Tickets” and that “the resale of any Masters Ticket is strictly prohibited,” adding that holders of tickets acquired from third parties may be excluded. Resale sites sell them anyway, at prices of well over $1,000 a day. If you buy that way, you’re paying a large premium for a ticket the club can refuse to honor. Our Masters tickets resale guide covers what’s legal, what isn’t and how the club enforces it.
Which day should you go to the Masters?
If you can choose, go on a practice day. Monday and Tuesday are the cheapest ($125), the most relaxed and the only days besides Wednesday you can bring a camera. Wednesday adds the Par 3 Contest, where players’ children caddie. Thursday and Friday show the whole field in competition; the weekend has the leaders and the champion, and the biggest crowds.
In practice, the lottery chooses the day for you. But if you have options, whether from a friend’s spare ticket or an application strategy, here’s how the days compare:

- Monday and Tuesday. Players experiment, hit extra shots, sign autographs and play practice rounds in groups. You can walk the whole course, stand behind the greens and take photos. For a first visit, many patrons think Tuesday is the best day of the week.
- Wednesday. The Par 3 Contest on the short course next to the clubhouse is the most charming afternoon in golf, with players’ children and partners in white jumpsuits caddying. Cameras are still allowed.
- Thursday and Friday. The whole field plays, and you see every player in competition. The crowds are lighter than on the weekend, and it’s easier to find a seat at Amen Corner.
- Saturday and Sunday. The tournament. The leaders play late in the afternoon, and Sunday’s roars carry across the property. Arrive early, pick a spot and stay there.
Our Masters practice round tickets guide compares the three practice days in more detail.
What are Masters Series badges?
Series badges are the four-day tournament badges held by the Masters’ patron list. They’re renewed each year, and they’re the tickets that hold the best seats on the course. The list is effectively closed. According to the tournament’s history, the waiting list opened in 1972 and closed in 1978, reopened in 2000 and then closed again.

For a traveler, the practical point is that Series badges aren’t a route you can plan around. Badges do change hands on the secondary market, but that’s the same prohibited resale, at a much higher price. Our Masters Series badges guide explains how the patron list works and why it’s so hard to join.
Where to stay for the Masters
Lodging is the hardest part of a Masters trip after the ticket, and the most expensive. Augusta is a mid-sized city that fills for one week a year with tens of thousands of visitors, and its hotels and homes price accordingly.
House rentals are the Masters tradition. Many Augusta residents rent their homes for the week, and some rely on it. The Masters Housing Bureau describes itself as the largest home rental agency for the tournament and the only one sanctioned by Augusta National. Its listings run in price tiers from $500–$1,999 for the week up to $15,000 and more. Short-term rental data from AirDNA, reported by Front Office Sports, put the average Masters-week rental in 2025 at $514 a night, against a normal baseline of about $200, with more than 16,400 nights booked between April 7 and 13.
Here’s how the main options compare:
| Where | Drive to Augusta National | Why stay there | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Augusta, near Washington Road | Minutes | Walk or ride to the gates | Highest prices; hotels with minimum stays |
| Evans and Martinez (Columbia County) | About 15–25 minutes | Big rental houses, suburban quiet | Traffic on Washington Road in the morning |
| North Augusta, South Carolina | About 15–20 minutes | Across the river, often cheaper | Bridge traffic at peak times |
| Aiken, South Carolina | About 30–40 minutes | Charming horse-country town, restaurants | A longer daily drive |
| Columbia, South Carolina | About 75 minutes | Much cheaper hotels, a bigger airport | Long days |
| Atlanta | About 2.5 hours | Easy flights, lots of hotels | Only sensible for a single day at the course |
The rule is to book lodging as soon as you know you have tickets, or before, with a refundable rate, if you’re planning to go regardless. For groups, a house split four to eight ways is usually the best value, and it’s the most Masters way to do it. Our guides to where to stay for the Masters and Masters house rentals cover neighborhoods, agencies and prices.
How to get to the Masters
Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) is the closest, a short drive from the course, but it’s small and Masters-week flights sell out and price up early. Most visitors fly into a bigger airport and drive:
| Airport | Drive to Augusta | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Augusta Regional (AGS) | About 15–20 minutes | Closest, limited flights, expensive in Masters week |
| Columbia, SC (CAE) | About 75 minutes | A good compromise |
| Atlanta (ATL) | About 2.5 hours, 145 miles | The most flights and the lowest fares |
| Charlotte (CLT) | About 2.75 hours | Good for the Northeast and Midwest |
| Savannah (SAV) | About 2.5 hours | Pairs well with a coastal Georgia trip |
At the course, patron parking is run by the tournament in lots near the grounds, and rideshare has designated drop-off areas. Traffic on Washington Road builds early, so on a tournament day aim to arrive when the gates open. Our how to get to the Masters guide has the parking, rideshare and arrival strategy.
What can you bring to the Masters?
You can’t bring a phone to the Masters. Cell phones, tablets, laptops and any device that transmits photo or video are banned, and anyone caught using one is removed, with the ticket purchaser permanently losing their tickets. Fitness bands and electronic watches are allowed. Cameras are permitted only on the practice-round days, Monday to Wednesday.
The phone rule is the one that surprises first-timers, and it’s enforced. The club provides courtesy phones on the grounds for patrons who need to make a call. On practice days, you can bring a digital camera with one lens no longer than 8 inches when fully extended, for still photos and personal use only. From Thursday to Sunday, no cameras at all.
Beyond electronics, patrons traditionally bring folding chairs without arms, which many set up at a favorite spot early in the day and come back to. Bag and chair rules can change from year to year, so check the current list of prohibited items on masters.com before you pack. Our what can you bring to the Masters guide keeps the full list up to date.
Masters food prices and the golf shop
The Masters is the only major sporting event where the food is a reason to go. In 2026, according to NBC’s regional coverage of the menu, the famous pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches cost $1.50 each, a price unchanged since 2002 (the pimento cheese sandwich cost 30 cents in 1934, per NPR and Golf Digest). Here’s a sample of the 2026 menu:
| Item | 2026 price |
|---|---|
| Pimento cheese or egg salad sandwich | $1.50 |
| Chips or apple slices | $1.50 |
| Cookies | $2.00 |
| Pecan caramel popcorn | $2.00 |
| Masters candy bar | $2.25 |
| Cheese straws | $2.50 |
| Blueberry muffin | $2.50 |
| Peach ice-cream sandwich | $3.00 |
| Beer (domestic, imported or craft) or white wine | $6.00 |
| Breakfast items | $2–$3 |
A family of four can eat all day for less than the cost of a single stadium hot dog meal elsewhere. The golf shop is the opposite. Masters merchandise is famous, much of it is sold only on the grounds, and the lines at the main shop can be long. Go early in the day or late in the afternoon, and many patrons ship their purchases home rather than carry them. Our Masters food prices guide has the full menu, and what to wear to the Masters covers the unwritten dress code (golf clothes and comfortable shoes; the course is much hillier than it looks on TV).
How much does it cost to go to the Masters?
If you win the lottery, a three-night Masters trip for two costs roughly $1,500–$2,700 per person, with tickets at $125–$160 and a shared rental at Masters-week rates. Buying tickets on the secondary market instead typically adds $1,000–$2,000 or more per person per day, and a package can cost several thousand dollars per person.
Here’s a worked example for two people who won Tuesday practice-round tickets in the lottery, staying three nights. Flights and car are our assumptions; lodging uses AirDNA’s 2025 Masters-week average.
| Per person | Low | High | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ticket (Tuesday practice round) | $125 | $125 | Lottery face value, 2027 |
| Lodging, 3 nights, sharing a rental | $770 | $1,200 | $514 a night average in 2025; better houses cost more |
| Flights (assumed) | $300 | $550 | Into Atlanta or Columbia, booked early |
| Rental car, split two ways | $120 | $200 | Plus fuel |
| Food and drink at the course | $20 | $40 | Yes, really |
| Food and drink off the course | $150 | $300 | Three evenings in Augusta |
| Merchandise | $0 | $300 | The part nobody budgets for |
| Total per person | About $1,485 | About $2,715 |
Swap the lottery ticket for a secondary-market Tuesday ticket at about $1,800, as GOLF.com describes as typical, and the total jumps to roughly $3,200–$4,400 per person, with the added risk that the club may not honor it. That’s why the most sensible Masters plan is to apply every year and treat a win as the trigger for booking everything else.
Our cost to go to the Masters guide has budgets for tournament days and for groups, and Masters travel packages explains what the package companies actually include.
Can you play golf during Masters week?
Not at Augusta National. The club has roughly 300 members, and the only realistic route onto the course is a member’s invitation. But there’s good golf nearby, and many groups turn Masters week into a golf trip.

- The Patch, Augusta’s public municipal course, reopened in spring 2026 with a new 18 by Tom Fazio and Beau Welling and a nine-hole par-3 course by TGR Design. It’s the obvious round for Masters visitors, a few miles from the club, and demand in Masters week will be high, so book as soon as tee times open.
- Aiken, South Carolina, about 40 minutes away, has a long golf history and several courses that take visitors.
- Myrtle Beach is about four and a half hours from Augusta, and a Masters practice day plus three days of Myrtle Beach golf is a classic spring road trip. See our Myrtle Beach golf trip guide.
- Pinehurst is about three and a half hours north and makes an equally good pairing, particularly for a group that wants a golf town atmosphere after Augusta. See our Pinehurst golf trip guide.

Tips for your first day at Augusta
The first thing most people say after a day at the Masters is that television doesn’t do it justice, and the second is that they wish they’d known a few things before they went. Here’s the short list.
- Arrive when the gates open. Traffic on Washington Road builds early, and the first hour is the best time to walk the course, find a spot and set your chair down before the crowds arrive.
- Walk the whole course once. Augusta National is much hillier than it looks on TV. The drop from the 10th tee to the green, and the climb up the 18th, are steep. Walking the full loop early in the day gives you a sense of the place and helps you choose where to spend the afternoon.
- Pick a few places to watch. Amen Corner, the stretch from the 11th green through the 12th and the 13th tee, is the most famous spot on the course. The par-3 16th, with its pond, is the loudest, and on practice days players traditionally try to skip their balls across the water to the green. The area around the 1st tee, the 9th and 18th greens and the big oak tree behind the clubhouse is where you’ll see the most players and the most people.
- Pick up a pairing sheet. Free sheets list the day’s groups and tee times. Combined with the hand-operated scoreboards around the course, it’s all you need to follow the tournament without a phone.
- Eat when you’re hungry. Concession stands are spread across the grounds, the lines move quickly and the prices are the lowest in sport. There’s no need to plan meals around the golf.
- Visit the golf shop at a quiet time. First thing in the morning or late in the afternoon, rather than at lunchtime.
- Agree a meeting point. Without phones, groups that split up need a plan. The big oak tree is the traditional choice.
Masters traditions every first-timer should know
The Masters runs on traditions, and knowing them makes the day easier.
- Fans are “patrons.” It’s the club’s word, and you’ll hear it everywhere on the grounds and on the broadcast.
- No running. Patrons are expected to walk, even to the best spots at the start of the day.
- Chairs are respected. A folding chair left at a spot is understood to be reserved for its owner, and patrons leave each other’s chairs alone.
- The scoreboards are hand-operated, as they have been for decades, and they’re part of the atmosphere.
- The honorary starters hit the ceremonial first tee shots on Thursday morning, a tradition that draws a big crowd around the 1st tee at dawn.
- The Champions Dinner is held on Tuesday of Masters week, for past champions only, with the menu chosen by the defending champion.
- The Green Jacket is presented to the winner on Sunday evening, by the previous year’s champion.
None of these is complicated, and the atmosphere they create is the reason many people who’ve been to every other major say the Masters is the best of them.
Things to do in Augusta during Masters week
Augusta is a real city with a life beyond the golf, and Masters week is its biggest party. A few things worth fitting in around the tournament:
- Downtown and Broad Street, with restaurants, bars and a statue of James Brown, Augusta’s most famous son.
- The Augusta Riverwalk along the Savannah River, and the historic Augusta Canal, which you can walk, cycle or tour by boat.
- Aiken, South Carolina, about 40 minutes away, for a quieter evening in a handsome horse-country town with good restaurants.
- A round of golf of your own, at The Patch in Augusta or on a detour to Myrtle Beach or Pinehurst, as described above.
Restaurants in Augusta book out for Masters week, especially for groups, so reserve dinners when you book lodging. For a group trip, a rented house with a grill is often the easiest way to eat together.
Masters week, day by day
Masters week really starts the weekend before, with two events at Augusta National that are easier to attend than the tournament itself.
- Saturday before Masters week: the final round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur ($150 in 2027 per GOLF.com and Yahoo Sports).
- Sunday before Masters week: the Drive, Chip and Putt national finals for juniors ($35).
- Monday, April 5, 2027: first practice round. Cameras allowed.
- Tuesday, April 6: practice round, and the Champions Dinner in the evening (for past champions only).
- Wednesday, April 7: final practice round and the Par 3 Contest.
- Thursday, April 8, and Friday, April 9: first and second rounds; the cut after Friday.
- Saturday, April 10, and Sunday, April 11: third and final rounds, and the Green Jacket ceremony on Sunday evening.

Frequently asked questions
When is the Masters ticket application for 2028?
The 2027 application ran from June 1 to June 20, 2026, and the club typically opens the next window in early June. Expect the 2028 application in June 2027, online only at masters.com, with results by email in July. Create your account ahead of time.
What are the odds of winning Masters tickets?
Augusta National doesn’t publish them. About 40,000 patrons attend each day, and reported applications run into the millions, so the odds are low. Applying for several days, including practice rounds, gives you more chances, but you can win only one day.
Can you buy Masters tickets on StubHub?
Tickets are listed on resale sites, but Augusta National prohibits resale and says holders of tickets from third parties may be excluded. The club revoked passes in a 2025 crackdown. Buying resale means paying well over face value for a ticket that may not be honored.
Can you bring your phone to the Masters?
No. Phones and other devices that transmit photo or video are banned, and anyone caught using one is removed, with the ticket purchaser permanently losing their tickets. Courtesy phones are available on the grounds. Fitness bands and electronic watches are allowed.
Can you bring a camera to the Masters?
Only on practice-round days, Monday to Wednesday: one digital camera with a lens no longer than 8 inches when extended, for still photos and personal use. Cameras aren’t allowed from Thursday to Sunday.
How much is a pimento cheese sandwich at the Masters?
$1.50 in 2026, the same price as in 2002. Egg salad is also $1.50, and beer and white wine are $6. The concessions are famously cheap; the merchandise isn’t.
Where do people stay for the Masters?
In rented houses in Augusta, Evans and Martinez, in North Augusta across the river in South Carolina, or in Aiken, about 30–40 minutes away. The Masters Housing Bureau is the only rental agency sanctioned by Augusta National. Budget-minded visitors stay in Columbia, about 75 minutes away.
Can you play Augusta National?
Only in very rare circumstances. The club has roughly 300 members, and the realistic route is an invitation from one of them. Other routes include qualifying for the tournament, winning certain amateur championships, the annual media lottery for a small number of journalists, and working at the club.
Can children go to the Masters?
Yes. The Masters has long run a junior program that lets children accompany a ticketed adult on tournament days, and the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday is the most family-friendly day of the week. Age limits and rules can change, so check the current junior policy on masters.com before you travel.
Is it worth going to Augusta for the Masters without tickets?
For most people, no. The town has a festive atmosphere and The Patch offers public golf, but lodging costs several times the usual rate and you won’t see the tournament. Apply for tickets every June, and plan the trip in the years you win.
What is Amen Corner?
The stretch of Augusta National from the second shot at the 11th hole, through the par-3 12th, to the tee shot at the 13th. The writer Herbert Warren Wind named it in 1958, and Rae’s Creek, which crosses in front of the 12th green, has decided more Masters than any other feature on the course. It’s the most famous place to watch.
What is the Masters Par 3 Contest?
A nine-hole contest on the short course beside the clubhouse, played on Wednesday of Masters week since 1960. Players often use their children, partners or friends as caddies, which makes it the most relaxed afternoon of the week. Superstition says it’s unlucky to win it: no Par 3 Contest winner has gone on to win the Masters the same year.
Getting Masters tickets is a lottery in the literal sense, and that’s the right way to plan it: apply every June, and treat a winning email as the start of the trip. When it comes, book the house, fly into Atlanta or Columbia, leave the phone in the car and budget more for the golf shop than for lunch. It’s still the best-value day in golf.
