Golf tournament tickets for the big events are sold four ways: by lottery (the Masters), by ballot (the Open, the Ryder Cup), by registry and general sale (the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open), or on open sale (most PGA Tour events). For 2027 the ballots have closed, but official packages, hospitality and some resale are still available.
That’s a lot of different systems for one sport, and it’s why so many golf fans give up before they start. The good news is that watching golf in person is still one of the best-value days in professional sport. A grounds ticket for a regular PGA Tour event usually costs less than an NFL parking pass, you can walk within a few yards of the best players in the world, and you can spend a whole day at one green with a sandwich if you want to.
2027 is an unusually good year to go. The Masters is April 5–11. The PGA Championship goes to the PGA of America’s new home in Frisco, Texas, in May. The U.S. Open returns to Pebble Beach in June. The Open is at St Andrews in July, 100 years after Bobby Jones won there, and the Ryder Cup comes to Adare Manor in Ireland in September. Few years line up four more attractive trips for American fans.
This page is the hub for all of our tournament travel guides. It covers when each event is, how its tickets are sold and what they cost, the rules on resale, and how to plan the trip around a tournament week, when hotel prices can triple. Everything was checked in September 2026. Ticket prices for many 2027 events haven’t been released yet, and we say so where that’s the case.

How are golf tournament tickets sold?
Each organizer runs its own system. The Masters uses a random online application. The Open and Ryder Cup use ballots, then sell packages. The PGA Championship and U.S. Open sell through online registries and general sales. Regular PGA Tour events sell openly online. Missing the first window rarely means missing out completely.
Understanding the four systems saves a lot of wasted effort.
1. Random application (the Masters). Augusta National takes free online applications once a year. For 2027, the window ran from June 1 to 20, 2026. Winners are drawn at random and notified in July. You can apply for practice rounds (up to four tickets for one day) or tournament rounds (up to two for one day), but Augusta decides which day you get, and you can win at most one day. Everything is in our guide to how to get Masters tickets.
2. Ballot, then packages (the Open, the Ryder Cup). You register, enter a ballot during a set window, and if you’re drawn, you buy tickets at face value. Once the ballot closes, the organizers sell what’s left inside ticket-and-hotel packages, “ticket plus” add-ons and hospitality. For Americans this is often the realistic route, because an official package solves the lodging problem at the same time.
3. Registry and general sale (the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open). You register interest, get an early purchase window by email, and then tickets go on general sale. Some ticket types sell out quickly, especially weekend rounds, but practice days and hospitality usually last longer. The PGA Championship also runs a verified resale platform for tickets that have sold out.
4. Open sale (most PGA Tour events). THE PLAYERS, the WM Phoenix Open, the Memorial and most weekly Tour events sell online through the tournament site or an official ticketing partner, often months ahead. They rarely sell out completely, except on the busiest days of the busiest events.
In all four cases, the official site is where to start and, for the Ryder Cup and the Masters, where to finish too.
How much do golf tournament tickets cost?
A grounds ticket to a regular PGA Tour event usually costs under $100, often much less on practice days. Majors cost more: the Masters is cheap at face value but expensive on resale, while Ryder Cup match days cost €499 and a final-round Open ticket is reported at £190. Hospitality runs from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.
The price of a golf ticket depends less on the event and more on which of three things you’re buying.
Grounds admission (also called general admission) gets you onto the course. You walk wherever spectators can walk, stand behind the ropes, and find your own grandstand seat if there’s space. This is how most fans watch golf, and it’s how we’d recommend watching it.
Premium grounds or club access adds a shared air-conditioned space, better food and drink options, cleaner restrooms and sometimes a viewing deck. At the 2027 PGA Championship, the Choctaw Ice House four-day pass was listed at $2,734.
Hospitality is a private or semi-private space on a key hole, with food and drinks included and often a dedicated entrance and parking. At the top end, the PGA Championship’s Wanamaker Club was listed at $4,428 per day for 2027.
A few price points we could verify or found reported, for scale:
- Masters: about $100 for a practice-round day and $140 for a tournament day at face value in 2026, as reported by Today’s Golfer. On resale, a Tuesday practice-round ticket has been reported at around $1,800.
- PGA Championship 2027: Championship+ tickets for all seven days $1,383, according to Yahoo Sports’ report on the ticket launch.
- The Open 2027: a final-round adult ticket reported at £190 (about $255), a big jump on 2026.
- Ryder Cup 2027: match days (Friday to Sunday) €499 (about $580) each; Thursday, with the opening ceremony, €179; practice days from €89; a weekly pass €1,999.
- Presidents Cup 2026 (Medinah, September 24–27, 2026): Sunday grounds $156; Captains’ Club $379.
The takeaway: the ticket is rarely the expensive part of a tournament trip. Hotels are. We’ll get to those.
The four majors: what to know for 2027
The Masters (Augusta National, April 5–11)
The hardest ticket in golf, the cheapest at face value, and the most rewarding day out in the sport. Practice rounds run Monday to Wednesday (with the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday), and tournament rounds Thursday to Sunday. The concessions are famous for being cheap: a pimento cheese sandwich still cost $1.50 in 2026. The phone rule is famous too. Phones aren’t allowed on the grounds at all, and anyone caught with one is removed and the ticket holder can lose their tickets permanently.
For 2027, the application window has closed. If you didn’t win, the options are resale (widespread, but against Augusta National’s terms, and the club can cancel tickets), a hospitality package from a third-party operator, or applying again in June 2027 for 2028. Lodging in Augusta during Masters week averaged about $514 a night in 2025, according to AirDNA, compared with a normal level around $200.
Our full guide to getting Masters tickets covers the application, resale risks, hospitality and where to stay.

The PGA Championship (PGA Frisco, Texas, May 17–23)
The 2027 PGA Championship is on the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco, the Gil Hanse-designed course at the PGA of America’s headquarters, about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas. Championship rounds run May 20–23. Tournament-round tickets were officially sold out by the time we checked, with verified resale available for some ticket types, and the Wanamaker Club and Choctaw Ice House hospitality had also sold out. Juniors 15 and under get in free with a ticketed adult, and qualifying military get free grounds access.
Dallas is one of the easiest major trips to plan. Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) and Dallas Love Field (DAL) both have huge numbers of flights, and the Frisco area has a lot of hotel rooms. Traffic on the Dallas North Tollway on tournament days will be the main headache, so check official parking and shuttle plans closer to the date. Plan more in PGA Championship 2027 in Frisco.
The U.S. Open (Pebble Beach, June 14–20)
The 2027 U.S. Open is Pebble Beach’s seventh, after Jack Nicklaus (1972), Tom Watson (1982), Tom Kite (1992), Tiger Woods (2000), Graeme McDowell (2010) and Gary Woodland (2019). Practice days are June 14–16 and the championship June 17–20. Pebble is also scheduled to host the U.S. Open in 2032, 2037 and 2044.
It will be one of the most spectacular majors to attend and one of the hardest to organize. The Monterey Peninsula has a limited number of hotel rooms, and many of the best near the course are already tied up with the USGA and corporate hospitality. Spectators usually park well away from the course and ride shuttles in. Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) is small; San Jose (SJC) is roughly 1.5 hours away and San Francisco (SFO) about two hours, traffic permitting. Consider staying in Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel Valley, Salinas or even Santa Cruz.
We couldn’t verify 2027 U.S. Open ticket prices when this was updated, since the USGA’s ticket site blocked our check. Start at usopen.com. Our guide to the 2027 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach covers tickets, lodging and getting around, and our Pebble Beach golf trip guide covers playing the course yourself.

The Open (St Andrews, July 11–18)
The 155th Open will be the 31st played on the Old Course, and it marks a century since Bobby Jones won there in 1927. Championship rounds are July 15–18, with practice days earlier in the week. The public ticket ballot opened on July 6, 2026 and closed on July 24, 2026.
Missed the ballot? The R&A still sells Tickets & Accommodation packages, “Ticket Plus” upgrades and hospitality, and the University of St Andrews rents student rooms during Open week. Americans also need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (£20). St Andrews itself is a small town, and Open week lodging runs out early, so plenty of fans stay in Dundee, elsewhere in Fife or in Edinburgh, about 90 minutes away, and take the train and shuttle buses.
If you want to play golf on the same trip, our golf trip to Scotland guide covers the rest of the country. Note that the Old Course closes to visitors for weeks around the Open. For tickets and logistics, see The Open 2027 at St Andrews and how to get Open Championship tickets.

The Ryder Cup 2027 at Adare Manor
The 2027 Ryder Cup is at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, from September 13 to 19. The matches run Friday to Sunday, September 17–19, and it’s Ireland’s second Ryder Cup after the K Club in 2006. Luke Donald captains Europe for a third consecutive time, and Jim Furyk leads the US team.
The ticket prices, as published for the ballot:
| Ticket | Price | About (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Practice days (Tuesday, Wednesday) | From €89 | From $103 |
| Thursday (opening ceremony) | €179 | $208 |
| Match day (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) | €499 | $579 |
| Weekly pass | €1,999 | $2,319 |
| Juniors under 16 (Tuesday, Wednesday / Thursday) | €20 / €30 | $23 / $35 |
The Irish priority window opened in April 2026, and the global ballot ran from June 3 to June 29, 2026. It’s now closed. What remains is official Ryder Cup Travel Services packages, which bundle tickets with hotels, and premium experiences. Don’t buy on resale sites: Ryder Cup Europe says tickets can’t be resold and it can cancel tickets bought on secondary platforms. That isn’t an idle threat at an event with ID checks and named tickets.
Shannon Airport, about 40 minutes from Adare, is the natural gateway, with Dublin about two and a half hours away. The whole of County Limerick and much of Clare and Kerry will be full that week. Stay in Limerick city, Killarney, Ennis or Galway and budget for shuttles or a long daily drive. And if you’re planning to play golf while you’re there, book it now. Our golf trip to Ireland guide explains how the Ryder Cup affects tee times across the southwest.

The best regular PGA Tour events to travel for
The majors get the attention, but many golf fans have better days at regular Tour events. Tickets are cheaper and easier to buy, crowds are smaller (with one loud exception), and the best players still show up, especially at the Tour’s Signature Events.
THE PLAYERS Championship, TPC Sawgrass (March 8–14, 2027). The PGA Tour’s flagship event, with the island-green 17th, one of the best spectator holes in golf. Tickets weren’t on sale yet when we checked, but you can register for alerts at theplayers.com. Ponte Vedra Beach is roughly 40 to 50 minutes from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX). March in north Florida is usually pleasant, and it’s a good trip to combine with golf of your own. See Players Championship tickets.
WM Phoenix Open, TPC Scottsdale (February 8–14, 2027). The loud one. It draws some of the biggest crowds in golf, and the stadium-enclosed par-3 16th, with grandstands for around 20,000 fans, is more like a football game than a golf tournament. The Saturday party atmosphere isn’t for everyone; weekdays are calmer. Scottsdale in February is also one of the best winter golf trips in the country. See Phoenix Open tickets.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (usually early February). A chance to see Pebble Beach with a tournament on it, and a smaller, easier alternative to the 2027 U.S. Open. The weather can be wild. See AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tickets.
Also worth the trip: the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town on Hilton Head (April 12–18, 2027), a relaxed event the week after the Masters; the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio; and the Tour Championship in Atlanta if you want to see the season finale.
For a first visit, the practical guide to attending a PGA Tour event covers tickets, where to stand and how to plan the day.

Is it safe to buy golf tickets on resale sites?
It depends on the event. PGA Tour tickets from major resale sites are generally fine. The Masters and Ryder Cup prohibit resale and can cancel tickets, so buying secondhand risks being turned away. The PGA Championship runs its own verified resale. Always check the event’s own terms before paying.
In more detail:
- Masters. Augusta National’s terms forbid resale and allow the club to cancel tickets. A large secondary market exists anyway, but the buyer carries the risk. Prices are several times face value.
- Ryder Cup 2027. Explicitly non-transferable. Ryder Cup Europe says it reserves the right to cancel tickets found on or bought through secondary platforms.
- The Open. Tickets are sold through official channels, and the R&A warns against unofficial sellers. Use official packages if you missed the ballot.
- PGA Championship. Uses an official verified resale platform for sold-out ticket types. Use that one.
- U.S. Open. The USGA’s own channels first; check its terms for official resale options.
- Regular PGA Tour events. Tickets bought through major resale marketplaces are generally fine, and prices near face value or below are common for weekday rounds.
A basic rule for any golf ticket: if the seller can’t name the ticket type, the day and how it will be transferred to you, don’t pay.
Hospitality and travel packages: what you get
Hospitality at a golf tournament ranges from a shared tent with a better bathroom to a private chalet on the 18th green. It’s easy to overpay for something you won’t use much, so know what each level typically buys.
- Premium grounds or club passes. A shared, climate-controlled clubhouse with food and drink for purchase or included, better restrooms and often a viewing area. The best value upgrade for most fans, especially in heat.
- Shared hospitality on a key hole. A seat and a view at one hole, with food and (usually) drinks included. Great for a day of watching groups come through, less great if you want to follow a player.
- Private chalets and suites. Corporate-level, priced for groups, and often sold for the week.
- Official ticket-and-hotel packages. Sold by the event itself (the Open’s Tickets & Accommodation, Ryder Cup Travel Services) or by licensed operators. For overseas events, and for sold-out weeks, these are often the only reliable way to get both a ticket and a bed.
Before paying for any package, ask:
- Is the ticket official and confirmed, or is the package a hotel room with a “ticket sourcing” promise?
- Where exactly is the hotel, and how do you get to the course each day?
- What’s included on the day: food, drinks, parking, transfers?
- What’s the cancellation policy if the event is cancelled or you can’t go?
More on price levels in golf hospitality packages.
Planning the trip around a tournament
The ticket is the easy part. The rest of a tournament trip follows a few rules that hold for almost every event.
Book lodging the day you have tickets. Hotels near major venues raise rates sharply and impose three- to seven-night minimum stays for tournament week. Book a refundable room as soon as you know the dates, even before tickets, if the policy allows.
Look 30 to 60 minutes out. The best-value rooms are usually one town over: Aiken or North Augusta for the Masters, Salinas or Santa Cruz for Pebble Beach, Dundee or Edinburgh for St Andrews, Limerick city or Killarney for Adare Manor.
Plan the transport, not just the room. Most big events use off-site parking with shuttle buses, and some require parking to be reserved in advance. At the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah, parking had to be booked ahead and started at $17, and a Metra train line ran fans to a shuttle. Assume nothing about being able to drive up to the course.
Pick your days carefully. Practice rounds are cheaper and less crowded, players are more relaxed, and you can get close to the action and take photos where phones are allowed. Thursday and Friday have the full field, with every star on the course at some point. Saturday and Sunday have the drama but the biggest crowds and the fewest players.
Here’s a rough budget for two days at a US major, per person, flying in from elsewhere in the country.
| Line item | Budget | Comfortable | What moves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tickets, 2 days | $150–$400 (practice or face-value days) | $500–$1,500 (tournament days, premium grounds or resale) | Which days, which ticket type |
| Flights | $250–$450 | $400–$700 | Origin city, how early you book |
| Lodging, 3 nights (shared) | $450–$900 | $1,200–$2,500 | Distance from the course, tournament-week pricing, minimum stays |
| Rental car, fuel and parking | $100–$200 | $200–$350 | Official parking passes, shuttles, rideshare |
| Food and drink | $150–$250 | $250–$450 | On-course concessions vs restaurants |
| Total | About $1,100–$2,200 | About $2,550–$5,500 |
For overseas events like the Open or the Ryder Cup, add transatlantic flights and assume official packages start well above these figures.
Watch and play: building your own golf into a tournament trip
Most golfers who travel to a tournament want to tee it up somewhere too. It’s a great idea with one catch: the host course, and often the best courses near it, are closed or blacked out for weeks around the event. Plan your own rounds around that.
THE PLAYERS (TPC Sawgrass). The Stadium Course is blacked out to public play from February 15 to March 16, 2027, around the tournament, so you can’t play it the same week. Come back in the fall or spring: from September to May the Stadium Course costs from $775, including cart, forecaddie and range, and from $550 in summer. Resort guests can book up to 12 months ahead; everyone else gets 14 days. Plenty of good public golf around Jacksonville and St. Augustine fills the gap during tournament week.
The WM Phoenix Open (TPC Scottsdale). The tournament’s Stadium Course closes for the event, but February is peak season for the rest of Scottsdale’s golf, with more than 50 courses in Scottsdale itself. Book tee times early; tournament week is one of the busiest of the year for the whole valley, and green fees reflect it.
The U.S. Open (Pebble Beach). Pebble Beach Golf Links itself will be off limits for a long stretch around the championship, and resort rooms will be scarce. Play the peninsula’s other courses before or after the week, or plan a separate Pebble Beach golf trip at a calmer time of year. Pebble’s green fee is $695 for April 2026 to March 2027.
The Open (St Andrews). The Old Course closes to visitors for several weeks around the championship, and the other St Andrews Links courses are busy with hospitality and infrastructure. The rest of Fife and East Lothian is open for business, but tee times book up early for Open week. Carnoustie’s 2027 rate has been reported at £450.
The Ryder Cup (Adare Manor). Adare itself is out of the question in 2027. Lahinch, Ballybunion, Tralee and Waterville are all within about two hours, but September 2027 tee times there are being sold to tour groups well in advance. If you want to play in the southwest that week, it’s the golf you should book first, not last.
The PGA Championship (PGA Frisco). PGA Frisco’s two championship courses take outside play in normal weeks, with access typically tied to the neighbouring Omni resort, so a separate trip to play Fields Ranch East is realistic. Check the current access rules before planning around it. In tournament week, look to other Dallas-area public courses and expect busier tee sheets.
What to bring (and what to leave at home)
Every event publishes its own list of prohibited items, and they differ. Read the one for your event. That said, some rules hold almost everywhere:
- Phones. Most PGA Tour events and majors allow phones on silent. Photos are commonly restricted during play and sometimes allowed on practice days only. The Masters is the big exception: no phones at all.
- Bags. Size limits are common, and some events require clear bags. Small bags and chairs usually pass; big backpacks often don’t.
- Chairs. Folding chairs without arms are allowed at many events and are a lifesaver at a par 3. Check the rules first.
- Food and drink. Usually no outside food or drink. Empty clear water bottles are often allowed; check first.
- Cameras. Often allowed on practice days only, and never during a player’s swing.
- Left at home: drones, signs, flags on poles, noisemakers and anything that could put a player off.
What to wear: comfortable walking shoes you’ve already broken in, because you’ll walk six to ten miles on hilly grass. Add layers, a hat, sunscreen and a small rain jacket. At most events, golf clothes are the norm but not required. The Masters and a few hospitality areas lean smarter. More detail in what to wear to a golf tournament.
How to watch a golf tournament in person
Watching golf live is a skill, and most first-timers spend the day walking behind the crowd at the back of a star’s group and seeing nothing. A better approach:
- Get there early. Gates often open two hours before the first tee time, and the driving range is the best place to see players up close while it’s quiet.
- Download the event’s app or pick up a pairings sheet so you know who’s playing where and when.
- Pick a spot, don’t chase a player. Find a grandstand or a slope behind a green and let the groups come to you. A par 3 is ideal: you see every tee shot and every putt.
- Follow one group for a few holes only. Pick them up on a quiet stretch and leave them when the crowd builds.
- Watch the second shots. A long-iron approach is the most impressive shot in golf in person, more than any drive.
- Use the big screens and the scoreboard. Live golf is hard to follow. Scoreboards tell you where the roars are coming from.
- Walk the course against the flow. Head out to the far holes while everyone crowds the first tee and the 18th green.
- Stay for the last groups on the weekend. Take a spot at a closing hole two hours before the leaders arrive. You’ll be glad you did.

Frequently asked questions
When are the golf majors in 2027?
The Masters is April 5–11 at Augusta National. The PGA Championship is May 17–23 at PGA Frisco, Texas. The U.S. Open is June 14–20 at Pebble Beach, and The Open is July 11–18 at St Andrews. Dates cover practice days; championship rounds are Thursday to Sunday.
How much are Ryder Cup 2027 tickets?
Match-day tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday cost €499 each (about $580). Practice days start at €89, Thursday with the opening ceremony is €179, and a weekly pass is €1,999. The ballot closed on June 29, 2026, so the remaining route is official travel packages.
Can I still get tickets to the 2027 Open at St Andrews?
The public ballot closed on July 24, 2026, but the R&A still sells official Tickets & Accommodation packages, Ticket Plus upgrades and hospitality. The University of St Andrews also rents rooms during Open week. Avoid unofficial resellers.
What is the cheapest golf major to attend?
At face value, the Masters is the cheapest, at about $140 for a tournament day in 2026, but it’s nearly impossible to get tickets at that price. For an American fan who can actually buy a ticket, practice days at the PGA Championship or U.S. Open are usually the most affordable way to see a major.
Are phones allowed at golf tournaments?
At most PGA Tour events and majors, yes, on silent, with limits on photos during play. The Masters bans phones completely, and people caught with one are removed. Always check the event’s own policy before you go.
What is the best day to attend a golf tournament?
For value and access, a practice round. For seeing the most top players, Thursday or Friday, when the full field is on the course. For drama, Sunday, though crowds are biggest and you’ll see fewer players. Many fans find Thursday the best overall.
Do kids get into golf tournaments free?
Often, yes. At the 2027 PGA Championship, juniors 15 and under get in free with a ticketed adult, and the 2026 Presidents Cup gave kids free grounds admission. Policies vary by event, so check the ticket page.
Are golf tournament tickets refundable?
Usually not, except if the event is cancelled. Some events offer ticket insurance at checkout, and bad weather rarely triggers a refund if any golf is played. Read the terms, particularly for expensive hospitality or packages.
Florida has more regular PGA Tour venues you can stay at than any other state. TPC Sawgrass hosts the Players Championship (March 9 to 14, 2027), Bay Hill the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Innisbrook’s Copperhead the Valspar Championship and PGA National’s Champion Course the Cognizant Classic. Outside tournament weeks, you can play all four as a resort or lodge guest. Our ranking of the best golf resorts in Florida covers 2026 rates and the access rules for each.
